Amphitrite in Greek mythology is the Goddess and Queen of the Sea and wife of Poseidon. She is the female personification of the oceans and mother of all sea life.
Martha created these women (goddesses or women of power) partly from her subconscious. They are her interpretation of how she imagines them to be if they existed in today's time - in the now. It is a portrayal of their strength, their sexuality, their power, as well as a celebration fo the 'feminine' and immortality.
