Shortlisted for ANL Art prize. Acrylic on Wood. Shadow boxed framed in Black Tassie Oak.
'The Unexpected Homecoming of Asger and Erik' references the Nordic folklore that those lost at sea return home as cormorants. The piece features the sea, cormorant wings and a lost ship underwater.
This piece is a part of a larger body of work by Michelle that explores folkloric legends with a specific interest in rebirth & renewal. Within this theme stone shapes are a constant for her, they are solid but smooth, hold history & will remain as a witness to the future. She loves that something like that can be held, kept & let go by generations.
