My 'Connection' Series is inspired by our connections in life, what is important to us and essentially what makes us, us.
Muldu means country in my grandmothers language. My maternal grandmother came from Ceduna. I was born on Boandik country in Mount Gambier, and have strong connection to Boandik country as I grew up in Bordertown and Mount Gambier. Muldu is my interpretation of the country I live and grew up on. To the right of the painting is Black Fellows Caves, followed by Mount Shank, followed by the Blue Lake in the centre of the painting, with Browns and Valley Lakes joining together (these lakes were originally two separate lakes, but over time the separation has eroded and it is now one large lake). Throughout the piece there are depictions of families, mob, men conducting men's business and women conducting women's business.
Living and working in South Australia, Bianka Carson is an Aboriginal Artist from the Wirangu language group. Having grown up in Boandik country with ancestral roots from Ceduna, Bianka is passionate about her cultural heritage, and paints mostly about family, relationships and the things that are most important to her.
I grew up with aunties telling me stories about natural resources, remedies and traditional bush medicine. Other stories were around landmarks, water sources, animals and spirits. I am very passionate about my cultural heritage.
Completing part of her Social Work Degree placement at a prison, Bianka was able to yarn with many Aboriginal Artists about paint, resources, technique and picturing what she wanted to achieve. It was here she felt an immediate sense of calm and connection with her culture, and found a love of painting. Bianka paints with a mix of bright colour and earthy tones depending on the piece.
Bianka is the owner and artist behind Windyigarn Art, a 100% Aboriginal Owned and family operated business creating art, jewellery and art print products. Windyigarn means 'allow to be free' in Bianka's grandmother's language, and for Bianka, her Windyigarn Art is for people who want to create the perfect environment for their needs, appreciating and immersing themselves in the story and elegance of each piece.
