Nancy Yukuwal McDinny is an artist and activist born on Fetrel Island, in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Northern Territory, between Managoora Station and Vanderlin Island. Living in Borroloola, she uses her painting practice to address historical and contemporary silences in the Gulf region, including her family’s brutal experiences of European settlement, and in particular the environmental issues caused by mining giants operating in the area. Nancy's paintings depict Dreaming stories, as well as capturing the rich traditional life that she and her family have practiced, including hunting, collecting bush tucker, and travelling.
