Oil on canvas, framed in raw oak.
Artist Peta Uthmeyer is a figurative painter whose works are semi-abstract expressions of personality, focusing and searching for surprising ways of utilising colour. Peta is particularly inspired by the colours of her country upbringing, especially the strong, warm colours of the Victorian Mallee region. For Peta, these colours bring back the happy memories of long hot summers.
Peta works with a sense of freedom, with only an idea acting as a seed beginning each painting. As she works, she lets each painting evolve, building up layers of paint allowing surprises to occur. Some paintings are spontaneous and resolve quickly, while others take time and a process of letting go.
