This painting is a tender ode to my muse, the Ocean and the Australian Coastline.
Aptly titled ‘Tideline Musings - Kelp Basalt & Crazy Birds’ after its inspiration, and location, from the topography, bird and sea-life on the south coast of Phillip Island.
At dusk on the island thousands Shearwater birds fly in to nest on cliff tops. But the birds are really bad at landing so there is this mass of feathers and chaos as they try to find their nesting burrows and touch down successfully.
The artwork has plenty of organic layers, texture and energetic markings and much for the eye to explore. Try to move in close and experience the materially of paintwork, then move back and draw in the whole atmosphere and movement of the piece, you may even spot the flutter of a bird wing or two.
