Jackie Anderson
Jackie Anderson is a New Zealand born mixed media artist working from her sunny Newcastle home studio. She studied visual arts, majoring in painting, at the University of Auckland and then went on to work in a commercial gallery before embarking on travel and adventure in the UK. It was these years abroad that set the foundation for Jackie's art which is inspired by travel and the process of journey and story-telling.
She paints intuitively from impressions of moments from her life and blurs the timeline between past and present, real and imagined. This duality of opposites is at the core of her art practice. Jackie's work is characterised by her confident use of colour and abstract shapes and marks. She uses visual imagery to build abstracted and re-arranged landscapes that are unrestricted by traditional notions of scale, perspective or time. Her paintings are vivid and bold yet on closer inspection reveal stunning subtle details which encourage viewers to ponder and reflect in a more considered manner. She was chosen as the Jumbled Art Superstar for 2019 and has also been selected in several other Art Prizes. She has exhibited her work in group exhibitions around Australia.
