Lucy Hersey
Lucy Hersey is a Victorian landscape artist known for creating paintings with handmade earth pigments sourced from local soil, rocks and clay. Her practice focuses on place based art, sustainability and a deep connection to the Australian landscape. A self taught painter with a background in medical research, she uses a methodical paint making process inspired by Old Masters techniques including hand grinding and mulling natural pigments.
Now living and working on a cattle farm in regional Victoria, she maintains a low impact art practice shaped by seasonal rhythms and custodianship of the land. Her work has been shortlisted for the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize and the Omnia Prize, and featured on Channel 9’s Good Chef Hunting, in Country Style Magazine and The Design Files.
