Based in Syndey, NSW, Ruchi Rai is a textile and surface designer with an ever evolving love for colour, bringing her passion onto the canvas.
After completing her textile design course in New Delhi, India, Ruchi travelled the world exploring different landscapes and cultures, eventually moving to Australia in 1994. From her original works with the rich and colourful textiles of India to her immersion in the Australian landscapes have all become the main source of inspiration for her artworks.
For Ruchi, the spontaneity and free flow of acrylic allows her to paint with freedom. Often beginning each piece with a visual understanding of its flow and direction, as it progresses it will develop its own story and depth.
“Abstraction to me is no boundaries and a feeling of free spirit. There are no expectations, there are no intentional movements and no calculative brush strokes. Many times they are just happy accidents! It is a pure connection of body, mind and soul with the colours, shapes and strokes."
