Tom Alberts
Tom Alberts (b.1962) is a Melbourne based artist whose paintings and drawings chronicle contemporary life – but often with a twist. Coloured by Film Noir, The Old Masters, Surrealism, or human Psychology in general, his still life, landscape, and figurative paintings can have a mysterious or absurd edge.
A skilled portraitist, Alberts has completed numerous portrait commissions of significant public figures, including Governor-General of Australia Sir Peter Cosgrove. He won the inaugural Rick Amor Self Portrait Prize in 2013.
Born in Hobart, Alberts and his family moved to Perth in 1970 where he completed his Fine Art studies at Curtin University (previously WAIT) in 1983. In late 1990 the artist moved to Melbourne where he continues to live and work.
