Lily Kellahan
Lily is an emerging artist from Boorloo (Perth, WA) , currently based in London, England. By mining digital mapping platforms, such as google earth, Lily assembles scenes and tableaus of figures interacting with each other, their surroundings, and the viewer. She then translates these scenes to large-scale supports and uses the vibrancy and materiality of oil paint to construct images in a painterly and fluid manner with an intensity of colour.
Spending time with each figure, Lily aims to re-sculpt their pixelated bodies with paint, utilising colours that are somewhat fantastical, artificial and surreal to explore the way we are able to connect with the ‘other’ on a mere screen of blue light. Lily’s practice is an investigation of the way these platforms document temporalities that dismantle and converge, by examining the existence of the body within them.
