Maggie Green
Maggie Green is a Mangala woman based in Port Hedland. She uses painting as a means to tell stories of her childhood, growing up on Myroodah station, where she went to school and worked, the dam she visited for fishing and swimming; and the bush tucker she collected and hunted for.
Her mother is frequently referred to in the stories associated with her artwork, as are then Myroodah Station Manager Mick, and teacher Mary Lannigan. Maggie also fondly remembers the friends she grew up with on the station, with whom she would ‘run amok’. Maggie began painting with her mother and grandmother at Myroodah Station.
Her memories are portrayed via inmate, semi abstract aerial maps of the sites she visited as a child; the station school, dormitories, garden, and local church and dam, located within and adjacent to Myroodah Station; a sheep and cattle station in the West Kimberley region where she was born and grew up.
