This painting reflects my northern NSW landscape, where I can see the moon rise over the hinterland through my kitchen window. The title ‘Inter-land’ suggests that by painting from the surrounding terrain an internal sense of self is fostered; inner and outer ‘landscapes’ merge.
This process offers a unique beauty that illuminates daily life.The painting process involves layering and building up a surface to ‘arrive’ at a final composition, rather than pre-planning. This process echoes how daily experiences in landscape gather and accumulate, forming a felt sense of place rather than one singular vista.
