Yurunya Jarrah depicts the season burn offs that are a traditional part of Aboriginal Landcare. A powerful moment of renewal, when scorched earth begins to bloom again.
“Yarunya Jarrah” means travelling fire. (Burning off the land). This artwork represents ancient tribal methods of burning off land to create new life. Rejuvenation. Knowing when to burn, how many times a year we need to, burning practices and lores were and still is common knowledge among each tribal people.
A big part of the rejuvenation was knowing that the many species of native trees needs fire to germinate the seeds to sprout. And only a minimal amount of water to grow having a rich topsoil on our lands. Being strongly connected to Mother Earth, our people had many practices in place for a reason and naturally understood it was to be followed.
Like all our knowledge, it was always passed down to the next generations for tens of thousands of years to continue life, for us and what is around us."
"I still have requests years on from people around the world wanting to purchase this print or if I have made more copies. Which can’t happen."
