Christopher Jewitt
Melbourne Artist Christopher Jewitt paints to express his interest in everyday objects, his canvas a tempest of colour and mark-making. Drawing objects atop each other, layers of zigzags, swirls, daubing lines and dots blend over each other, patterns created, found and lost again in the energy of the piece.
With saturated colour, balanced with more neutral tones, Christopher's works are playfully balanced between abstraction and representation – his style reminiscent of notebook scribbles and doodles. This energy and and frenetic expressions are nevertheless balanced and harmonised on the canvas.
Having completed a BA Photography course, majoring in Photojournalism, Christopher followed a scholarship to China, where he won Top Documentary Photographer at Nankai University. Since then he has funded and organised independent residencies in Murcia ESP, Miyazaki JPN, Chalais FR, Paphos CYP and Palermo IT and these isolated intensives have constituted his frenetic image construction.
