Kate Florence
Kate's recent on-going project explores perception of female form through line. Her practice is supported by regular life drawing sessions in which she is able to study human form in great detail. She develops her drawings from these studies, allowing them to take on a more abstract form. Exploring the use of pattern and line combined, Kate's works focus on experimenting on how to capture the image using just one single line.
Her focus is on the interaction between herself and the material, without overthinking the outcome. For Kate, the process of making is more important than the outcome – the journey of freely enjoying making work, without huge expectation of what the outcome will be, and letting herself interact with my materials without restriction allows her to explore her style and create more expressive pieces. Kate's current body of work is an exploration of line through the combination of drawing, painting and embroidery.
