Brisbane based artist Gina Ward creates structured, geometric compositions with bold colour, clean lines and balance between shape and figure. Not just an artist, Gina Ward is also a theatre nurse in one of Brisbane's busiest hospitals, a position she says has given her a deeper understanding of human vulnerability, detail and connection. She is drawn to movements of storytelling, connection to country and an attention to contrasts.
Much of her work is shaped by this drive to explore an interplay; of colour, of feeling, of geometry. In particular, she enjoys building her compositions, creating a steady balance, then disrupting them with subtle mismatches or inviting shapes. A push and pull between control and vulnerability.
