Misha Harrison
Misha Harrison is a sculpture and textile arts major, with a degree in Creative Arts. Her practice explores materiality and process through the still life genre, with each piece comprising of intricately hand cut, painted and embroidered plywood. Translating her images into three dimensional, sculptural artworks, Misha sees herself as crossing the traditionally masculine woodworking processes with the arts of embroidery and textiles that echo notions of femininity.
Reminiscent of assembling a jigsaw puzzle, Misha’s artworks are layered pieces of wood, each cut, painted, and carefully finished to fit into its play. Dimension, form, texture and colour are each important components, transformed into elaborate assemblages. Piece by piece the artwork reveals itself, and for Misha the process of her art is as important as the finished result, an importance of hand made and hand-crafted pieces in the world of the ready-made and mass produced.
