Gloria Ngarle

Gloria Ngarle began her art practice in the form of ceremonial Awelye (body painting) in her home country Anungara, north east of Alice Springs. A member of the Utopia Women's Batik group in the late 1970s saw her techniques translated to silk using the Indonesian wax-resist technique, though she truly found her medium in the quick drying acrylic on canvas.

As a member of the Utopia artist community her works are highly acclaimed and sort after. They indicate an innate knowledge of the land, ranging from depictions of Awelya body paint designs to images of Bush Midicine, wher conconctions of leaves and water are used for healing illnesss and weathering the desert conditions of the Urapuntja region.

Gloria's language is Anmatyerre/Anmatjerra and her country Atnangkerr
