Lisa Kerr

With a love for the natural world, Lisa Kerr seeks her inspiration when walking amongst the trees, looking at the sky, or hearing birds. She has always felt at peace in this kind of setting, and with a keen eye for detail, she seeks to communicate its beauty under her paintbrush. Light is a constant theme in her painting, and her pursuit to capture it is ongoing. Lisa has a background in technical drawing that joins with her love of free expression to create works which are often a blend of both, with a style that is both realistic and yet interpretive, built from rich yet earthy colours.

For Lisa, her faith and spirituality is also an integral part of her art, encouraging contemplative practice and helping her find the quiet and the meditative as she paints. It is through this method that she moves away from a fast approach to art to something more slow-cooked, and in her eyes, perhaps more nourishing!

Lisa works primarily in acrylics, with a planned process that is nevertheless flexible to spontaneity. She is inspired by impressionists, and their obsession with colour and light – often finding herself drawn to the emotion a single colour can evoke. Lisa's subject matter is often botanical, though many of her paintings are symbolic: a particular flower representing family members or someone who has passed away, with the story hidden in the image.

This greater sense of purpose plays an enormous role in the momentum of Lisa's work and keeps inspiration flowing as by creating art she feels is not only reflecting what she sees around her, but is a form of storytelling, that will be part of families and will continue to be told.
