New Artist Spotlight: July – Ros Gervay

New Artist Spotlight: July – Ros Gervay

Posted on 27 July 2022

Sydney based artist Ros Gervay creates expressionistic nature-inspired paintings with layers of loose painterly marks, typically in acrylic on canvas. Her artworks focus on the raw beauty of the natural world and its power to ground us and reconnect us with ourselves and the moment.

With a deep respect for the environment, Ros finds inspiration in the natural world around her, often translating her own photographs into the foundations for her artworks. In each painting, Ros seeks to capture the divine, untamed beauty of flora often through organic, gestural brushwork. Each painting acts as an invitation to the viewer, asking of them a moment of their time, to escape and be still.

She was a Finalist in the 2022 Art To Art Unearthed Art Prize and co-hosts the Paint Rest Repeat podcast – discussing the art world and helping people overcome the hurdles of time, energy, and perfectionism to dive into painting.

"I am an Australian abstract artist based in Sydney with a passion for all things art, colour, creativity and design. Incredibly grateful to live in in Sydney, I am in constant appreciation of our natural world and strive to express this gratitude through my art practice."

Ros Gervay has always been interested in art and creativity, and has followed this passion to become and established artist. She is passionate about discussing art, and sharing her passion and the importance she sees in creativity with others. Along with the Paint Rest Repeat podcast, Ros also offers an online watercolour course, "Permissions to Paint" for creative women who want to explore art again, welcoming it back into their lives.
