New Artist Spotlight: March - Prudence De Marchi

Newcastle based artist, Prudence's works are colourful layered abstracts, which vary from controlled geometric compositions and organic forms to fervent and energetic strokes of colour. Full of subtle details and overlayed textures her works have a sense of energy and story which bursts from the canvas.

Predominantly working with acrylics on canvas, Prudence is influenced by nature, architecture, design, music and fashion.

Growing up, Prudence has always held a love of art and being creative, and completed a double degree in Fine Art and Education in 2007. For the past decade Prudence has dedicated herself to special education, and currently works part time as Assistant Principal at a local Newcastle special school. Whilst on maternity leave she found herself with time to dedicate to her first passion – painting.

From her phone chock-full of inspiration that she screenshots and photos from everywhere, Prudence paints spontaneously, loving the freedom of starting a painting without knowing where it is going or where it will end up. A true colour lover, she is fascinated by the way colours change and blend when put side by side, focusing on which colours look good next to each other in her artworks.

"I don’t often step back and take a good hard look at a painting, but I like to focus on which colours look good next to each other. I micro-manage that way. Eventually, it all comes together."
