Full of tips and tricks to building your art collection on a budget, Art to Art's Director and Curator Philippa Demase was interviewed by Homes to Love in the lead up to the Sydney Affordable Art Fair.

1. KNOW YOUR BUDGET

You don't need an infinite budget to start an art collection. However, you do need to have a solid idea of how much you're willing to invest. "By knowing how much you have to spend on art, you'll have a realistic picture of what you can expect to purchase," says Philippa Demase, founder and curator, Art to Art Gallery. "Many emerging art collectors start with a small budget and as they expand their knowledge of the marketplace and learn to trust their instincts, they increase their budget with greater confidence."

2. START COLLECTING YOUR ART NOW

"There's no better time to start collecting original art than now," says Philippa. "It takes just one piece then you are on your way. Always keep it original and authentic. Buy a smaller original work if your budget is tight." "Ask us about payment plans like Art Money if your heart is set on a particular piece," adds Phillipa. "Imagine the collection you could have 10 years from now if you start today."
